Message from Net*One
Information communication technology (ICT) companies in general have made significant strides towards ensuring the MDG 8 is achieved.
We have noticed that with the advent new technologies in mobile connectivity it is necessary to migrate the rural communities onto the information superhighway. As Net*One we have chattered an initiative to spread network coverage to the rural areas better than any other network.
In connecting the rural community with the rest of the world via mobile, they will stay up to date with what is happening in economic centres and they are always just a phone call or an SMS away.
It humbles us to recall the award conferred to us by the Ministry of ICT at the inaugural ICT Achievers of the year for 2010 on our project for spreading network to the rural areas via solar powered base stations.
We realised that the rural communities are hardest hit by the power outages where base stations go for days on end without power. Net*One then came up with an idea to install solar powered base stations across the rural areas. This ensures constant connectivity to ensure communication is kept between the rural folks and their urban counterparts.
Net*One is already in partnership with SIM manufacturers Gemalto, with whom we are also working together on a project that will revolutionaries mobile money transfer. We have dubbed it OneWallet.
On Net*One, you will be able to send and receive cash, top up airtime and pay bills from the comfort of your homes. This product is targeted at the banked and unbanked population, bridging the divide in society where one will be able to transact using their mobile phone.
There is a lot happening on this front to ensure that we achieve what was set. Net*One as an organisation is driven by people-centred goals which ensure that we achieve these objectives in our sphere of influence.
