ARSENAL midfielder Mesut Ozil has been named Germany’s Footballer of the Year for 2015.

The in-form Gunners star has been sensational for his club side in recent months, notching up 16 assists in 27 games across all competitions, almost already double the nine assists he tallied last season, as he helped his side to last year’s FA Cup victory, while being instrumental to their impressive League run thus far this campaign.

The World Cup winner was also a regular for his national team in 2015, starting six matches as Die Mannschaft secured top spot in their Euro 2016 qualifying group.

Ozil, a four-time previous winner of the German Player of the Year, secured his fifth accolade with ease, securing 45.9% of the fans’ 51 000 votes, streaks ahead of Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller with 15.9%. FC Koln’s Jonas Hector grabbed third, with 13 players nominated in total.

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos won the award in 2014. kickoff.com
