REIGNING Zimbabwe Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Tanya Muzinda has been given a handy boost ahead of her month-long tour of Europe thanks to a US$6 000 sponsorship package from mobile telecommunication company NetOne.

The 11 year old female motocross star will this Friday head to Italy where she will compete in the Italy Women Championships scheduled Sunday.

Muzinda will then proceed to Belgium where she will be camped and will compete in two races slated for August 15 and 21. She will return home on August 25.

But funds permitting, Muzinda, will proceed to Netherlands and France where she is expected to compete in more races.

Net One spokesperson, John Nyashanu, said the sponsorship deal announced on Tuesday this week was a show of their commitment to transforming motocross in the country.

Nyashanu said Muzinda was one of the most exciting prospects in motocross today.

Said Nyashanu: “We are happy to be associated with the girl child (Muzinda) who has been successfully competing in motocross events”.

“We see a world champion in the making and a hope for Zimbabwe sport. Motocross has been a peripheral sport, a preserve of a minority section of our society but this was before the entrance of our golden girl (Tanya Muzinda) who has literally taken the sport by storm…We have seen her break records, becoming the first black female rider in 2014,” said Nyashanu.

Muzinda was grateful to NetOne for their support and saying she hoped the relationship  with the mobile telecommunication company will continue.

“This is a great day, for my European tour has become a reality,” said Muzinda.

“I would like to thank Mr Brian Mutandiro (the acting chief executive officer of NetOne) and his team for the support. I hope the relationship will continue. In turn I promise to do well in the sport,” said Muzinda.
