Neymar facing eight-match ban?
Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar is facing a potential eight-match ban for punching a fan after their shock Coupe de France defeat.
Neymar scored to put PSG 2-0 up after 21 minutes at the Stade de France on Saturday, but Rennes fought back to tie the game at 2-2 and win the penalty shootout 6-5 after extra time.
As the players climbed the steps to receive their medals, shaking the hands of those nearby, Neymar, one of the last in line, struck one of the fans in the faceAgence France-Presse reports that the fan, identified as a 28-year-old delivery driver called Edouard, had taunted many PSG players.
It’s been claimed Edouard called the PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon “dirty,” the midfielder Marco Verratti “racist,” and said Neymar needed to “go and learn to play football”.
Neymar has since admitted that his behaviour was injust via his official social media channels.
“Did I act badly?” Neymar asked in an Instagram comment, as reported by AFP.“Yes. But no one can stay indifferent.”
Edouard, meanwhile, said the punch left him with a bloody nose and a cut lip but maintains he “did not insult” Neymar. “I told him that they had been useless,” he said.
According to L’Equipe, the world-record transfer holder could face a suspension of up to five matches for punching a Rennes fan and if the French football commission decide to come down hard on him, this could reportedly turn into a huge, eight-match suspension. –kickoff.com
