BRAZIL legend Rivaldo explained why he feels Neymar will need to leave Paris Saint-Germain if he has a serious ambition to win the Ballon d’Or.

Neymar, 26, joined PSG in the off-season in a world-record £200m (R3.4b) deal from FC Barcelona, citing his ambition to win the Ballon d’Or without having to personally compete with five-time winner of the coveted honour, Lionel Messi.

But Rivaldo feels it was a mistake to leave LaLiga and claims a move to Real Madrid is needed in order to reach the level required to finally break the dominance held by Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo over the past decade.

“I have already said that Neymar can be the best player in the world, but I think that if he stays at PSG he won’t achieve that,” Rivaldo told Globoesporte, as quoted by Marca. “He has to leave PSG.

“Ruling out Barcelona because of what happened there, and according to the information that I’ve heard from close people, I think he has a chance of going to Real Madrid, given all I have heard recently.
