Of pastors and grass-eating sheep

(Resolving Personal& Spiritual Conflicts)

The devil is at work!It does not require a rocket scientist to tell you the devil is at work when you hear of pastors and evangelists doing not only questionable but sacrilegious things. A South African pastor causing his followers to eat grass to prove that humans can eat anything under the control of the spirit raises eyebrows not only outside the church but also within. If it is truly the spirit that caused the followers to eat grass, then it is clear that it was the evil spirit. It was also the evil spirit that led a Brazilian evangelist to convince his congregants that his male organ contained holy milk.

The lure of glory
In some cases witchdoctors, sorcerers and magicians are leaving their traditional shrines and coming to work magic in the church in the name of prophets and pastors. Maybe the reason is that it is no longer fashionable to be consulted as a witchdoctor.
In other cases, genuine men and women of God are doing questionable and heinous things driven by the lure of glory and popularity. The current thinking is that when you do supernatural works, you attract multitudes and large sums of money will follow. People should know that supernatural acts have two sources: God and Satan. For almost every   real miracle of God, the devil has a counterfeit. Exodus 7 confirms this: Aaron’s rod turned into a serpent but the sorcerers of Pharaoh did the same. Knowing which one is a divine miracle or a demonic miracle requires discernment.

Keep close to God’s word
Genuine servants of God are advised to keep close to God’s word. Let everything you do and say have at least two scriptural references especially from the epistles. If you cannot lay a finger on a scripture that supports what you are saying and doing, know that you have drifted from God’s word, the standard of truth and the final authority of a believer. Error and occultism begin with departure from scriptures. Pastors must learn patience. We are not in competition. Wait for God’s anointing and elevation.

Church members should learn to be diligent students of the Bible like the Bereans, who searched the scriptures daily to ascertain whether what Paul taught them was so in the scriptures (Acts 17:11). Do not deify your spiritual leader, they are not infallible, only God and His word are.
