Oliver Mtukudzi dies
INTERNATIONAL musical icon Oliver Mtukudzi has died at a private Harare hospital after a long battle with diabetes, his family and close associates confirmed yesterday. The 66 year-old was one of a few Zimbabwean singers to have established or put up a professional record management company and acquired tangible assets such as his Pakare Paye arts centre in Norton.
With 66 albums to his name and major collaborations with other globally renowned artistes, including South Africa’s Hugh Masekela, Ringo Madlingozi, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Mtukudzi was appointed a United Nations’ goodwill ambassador in 2011.
