R Kelly dropped by reps and lawyer as more sexual assault allegations come to light
R. Kelly has reportedly been dropped by reps, following more sexual assault allegations.
The Ignition singer has apparently been let go by his lawyer, publicist and assistant, after a BBC Three documentary shed light on claims he ‘keeps’ young girls in his home as ‘pets’. According to the BBC, following the programme airing, lawyer Linda Mensch is no longer representing the 51-year-old. However, she vowed her decision to cut ties with the star after four years was ‘unrelated to any allegations related to Mr. Kelly’s social life’. Diane Copeland, his executive assistant, officially resigned earlier this month, the publication states.
He has also gone his separate ways with publicist Trevian Kutti, who told Rolling Stone: ‘Effective April 16, 2018, I no longer represent Mr Robert Kelly.’ The news comes after the star was accused of giving a woman an STD during their eight-month relationship, which began when she was 19. According to reports, the woman in question filed a complaint against the Bump And Grind singer with Dallas Police, and is preparing a civil complaint.
The woman accused him of infecting her with an STD last December, during a meeting in Dallas where he was due to perform at the Music Hall in Fair Park. She shared a statement with the Washington Post through her lawyer, Lee Merritt, which stated she met the singer last June, and claimed their relationship ended in February. Merritt told the publication that during the romance, ‘our client was the victim of several forms of criminal misconduct by Kelly including, but not limited to, unlawful restraint, furnishing alcohol and illegal drugs to a minor, and aggravated assault (via the referenced intentional STD infection).’
It has also been claimed Kelly tried to ‘groom’ the woman to join his ‘sex cult’. R. Kelly reportedly gave someone an STD (Picture: WireImage)‘These offenses occurred while our client was being groomed to join Kelly’s sex cult,’ the statement continued. ‘Kelly gradually introduced the cult to our client over the course of their relationship, culminating with an explanation that she would have to sign a contract and offer collateral information about herself and her family for Kelly’s protection.’
His rep told the publication he ‘categorically denies all claims and allegations’. The I Believe I Can Fly star recently made headlines after an ex-girlfriend came forward alleging he kept young girls as ‘pets’ in his home, claiming she was introduced to one after she moved into his Chicago home. Kitti Jones made the accusations while appearing in the BBC documentary into the singer, called R. Kelly: Sex, Girls and Videotapes. In the footage, the 34-year-old said: ‘I was introduced to one of the girls that he told me he trained since she was 14, those were his words. I saw that she was dressed like me, that she was saying the things I’d say and her mannerisms were like mine.
‘That’s when it clicked in my head that he had been grooming me to become one of his pets. He calls them pets.’ Kitti claims he made the teenager ‘crawl on the floor towards me and perform oral sex on me, and he said, “This is my fucking pet, I trained her.”‘ The Guardian states he previously denied her claims, with his attorney explaining last year: ‘Mr Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed at the recent revelations attributed to him. ‘Mr Kelly unequivocally denies such allegations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name.’ – metro.co.uk
