The Philadelphia city council has passed a bill that symbolically bans R. Kelly from entering the city of brotherly love.
The bill was announced on Twitter by council-member Helen Gym, who co-sponsored the resolution in response to the recent Surviving R. Kelly docuseries and the #MuteRKelly hashtag.

The six-part series detailed the years of sexual misconduct accusations that have plagued Kelly’s career.

The explosive documentary featured interviews with producers, musicians and testimonies from his alleged victims including his ex-wife.

Kelly has vehemently denied all allegations of sexual and physical abuse throughout his career.
Though the ban reportedly won’t be physically enforced, it was passed in an effort to set forth a city culture that won’t tolerate sexual abuse.

“The resolution is about not accepting,” Gym told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“It’s about being clear that we will not accept a future where rape is accepted, and rapists and sexual predators get away with their acts. I believe that R. Kelly and predators like him should be shamed and banished from the public sphere.

Kelly and has not been indicted in the last 15 years nor convicted of any crime, however, he is now being investigated by the FBI.

TMZ report that the FBI is looking into claims that the singer transported a minor across state lines for the purpose of sex. If proved true, Kelly would be in violation of US federal law’s Mann Act and could face up to 10 years in prison.
Since Surviving R. Kelly aired, the ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ singer has been dropped by Sony and is under a criminal investigation opened by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office in Georgia. Investigators have reached out to several survivors featured in the TV docuseries. – buzz.ie
