Recording firms introduce ‘budget CD/DVD’
Budget CD or DVD is a cheaper product mainly aimed at counteracting piracy, which has been a pain the flesh for local recording artistes and filmmakers. The budget CD or DVD will also be made affordable to the majority of the people who have been inundated with cheap poor quality pirated stuff.
ZARI president, Emion Sibindi, said: “Part of the reason for ZARI to come up with these budget products was as a way to counteract piracy by supplying the market with high quality original CDs and DVDs but packaged in a flimsy CD case with only one side (front or back) of the original CD/DVD sleeve/inlay inside. The printing on the surface of the CD/DVD remains the same as it is on the current original standard CD/DVD.”
He said by introducing these products of choice, “ZARI is encouraging all music lovers to support their artistes, shun piracy and buy original CDs and DVDs supplied by authentic legal recording studios”.
The budget CDs and DVDs will be available to all music retail shops and flea markets as well as main Zimpost offices.
Sibindi said the wholesale price from the recording studios would be about US$1,50 for a CD and US$3 for a DVD. At the Zimpost offices, these products will be sold at US$2 for a CD and US$4 for a DVD.
“However, for those who can afford it and would like to buy these products packaged in the usual international standard CD and DVD cases, these will continue to be available on the market at the same price as before, said Sibindi.
“This arrangement of supplying both standard and budget CDs and DVDs gives a choice to our valued customers, with the major point being that the inside CDs and DVDs for both standard and budget products are made of the same high quality blank CD and DVD, which should last for years if not scratched.”
