RedBar: Redefining nightlife

Harare’s newest nightclub, RedBar, has people dancing until the early hours, almost every night.  Newlands Shopping Centre is the venue for this ultra-modern, industrially themed nightspot, painted a bright, glossy red.
The bar’s cheerful exterior is echoed by the activity inside, as beers, cocktails and shooters flow freely among a truly diverse crowd of revelers.
Founded in 2010 by a local entrepreneur, Asa Jogi, RedBar’s goal is to provide Harare’s more mature crowd with a place to call their own.
Jogi says: “I wanted to create a place for mature, cosmopolitan Zimbabweans to enjoy themselves, somewhere everyone can call home, not a dancehall for teenagers!”
The club is strictly “No Under 21” and patrons are required to dress up and look “snappy” as the owner puts it, lending an air of sophistication to this innovative bar.
RedBar management keeps their ear to the ground when it comes to DJs and it is not uncommon for patrons to find fresh, new, young DJs mixing it up with some of Harare’s finest old school masters.
As a result, music at RedBar is fluid and exciting with sets ranging from modern hip-hop and dance all the way back to the original eighties R&B and soul.
RedBar is also a venue for cultural events, from spoken word festivals and comedy shows to improvised theatre and fashion shows.
“Zimbabwean culture, talent, and creative energy is one of the world’s greatest untapped resources, we love nothing more than promoting our local artists and have great pride in their abilities,” says the owner, himself a musician and actor.
So Hararians, if you’re looking for something new, something fresh, something original, make your way to Newlands and seek out RedBar.
You will find veteran bouncer Julius Ncube waiting for you with a big smile and manager Fred Chikomba running around keeping everything running smoothly. If you look hard enough you may just find owner Jogi sipping a vodka tonic and connecting with Harare’s coolest club goers.
