Divine revelation boosts spiritual maturity because a personal encounter with God removes all doubt and stabilises one’s faith. Knowing God personally through a revelation experience unleashes greater potential for spiritual growth than knowing God through the testimonies of others.
Every Christian who does not know the Lord through personal experience is a spiritual baby that can be carried to and from by every wind of doctrine. Such Christians are prone to be church-hoppers who constantly move from one church denomination to the other following their itching ears and idolising men and women of God.
Today they hear that there is a prophet who is revealing secrets, they run there.
Tomorrow they hear that there is exorcism of demons in a newly-formed interdenominational ministry, they rush there.
 The other day they hear that a certain church is strong on prosperity messages, they quickly go there.
Another day they hear that another church is recording a greater number of weddings in a year, they swiftly rush there. Apostle Paul described such people who are not rooted and grounded in their faith as those who are “ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of truth” (2 Timothy 3:7). Their problem is lack of a personal encounter with God. Immediately God reveals Himself to them they become stable and planted in one place.
The citizens of Samaria demonstrated the power of revelation experience. They heard about Christ through the testimony of a prostitute to whom Christ had revealed Himself.
 It is written in John 4:39, “And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all ever I did.” Christ’s revelation to that woman was so powerful that the woman’s testimony caused a religious awakening in the whole city. One woman who had experienced God’s revelation caused a stir in the city. People who had not received the same revelation believed her because the revelation she received transformed her character and turned her into a flaming evangelist.
However, the Samaritans did not stop at believing in God because of the woman’s powerful testimony. They went a step further and heard from the horse’s mouth.
After personally hearing the word of Christ, they said unto the woman who brought them to Christ, “And now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world” (John 4:42).
 This is where most people miss it. Some come to church through the invitation of friends or family members and they end there instead of seeking to know God personally. Others attend a crusade and hear the evangelist preaching the good news about Christ, they get born again, but they end there instead of seeking to have a direct revelation from Christ Himself.
A personal encounter with God or a direct divine revelation from God to you is what boosts your spiritual growth.
The reason why the seven sons of Sceva were thrashed by one demon is because they had no personal revelation of Christ. They wanted to cast out the demon in the name of Jesus whom Paul preached. The demon, seeing they lacked personal spiritual revelation of Christ, overpowered them and unclothed them. This account shows that worshipping or serving God without personal revelation is not only fruitless but also dangerous.
You need to personally know God intimately. God can be known intimately. He is more than ready to reveal Himself to you. There are many ways God can reveal Himself to you. He can reveal Himself to you through visions, dreams, true prophets, His written word, and through His Holy Spirit. Do not dictate to God how you want Him to reveal Himself to you. All you need to do is to seek Him with all your heart and whoever seeks Him that way finds Him. If God could reveal Himself to the unconverted Cornelius, how much more can He reveal to you, a born again saint? But you need to have the same hunger and thirst for the intimate knowledge of God that Cornelius had.
You can base your faith and hope for divine revelations unto you on these two premises: Firstly, it is a scriptural principle that whoever seeks finds, and secondly Christ revealed that to us children of God that it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God.
 If you know that God whom you are seeking is also seeking you, you will not stop seeking a personal encounter with Him. Stop worshipping an unknown God as the people at Athens did and get a proper revelation of God whose power is limitless, understanding infinite and love unfailing and watch yourself grow into a spiritual giant.
