Ronaldo tips Neymar to win Ballon d’Or

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar

Legendary Brazil striker Ronaldo claims Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is etching closer to becoming the world’s best player and is capable of winning the coveted Ballon d’Or trophy.

Ronaldo, a two-time winner of the most prestigious individual accolade in world football and a two-time World Cup winner, feels Neymar has improved since making a record-breaking €222 million move to the French capital from Barcelona.

And with the 2018 World Cup on the horizon this year, the former Real Madrid striker claims Neymar can secure the honour if he leads Seleção to glory.

With 18 league goals and 12 assists in 17 appearances, the former Barca forward is enjoying an incredible debut season with the Ligue 1 leaders.

“He has everything to be happy and you can see that on the pitch. He gives joy to football,” Ronaldo told SFR Sport. “I think that each time, he’s closer and closer to winning this individual prize.

“I’m sure he’s close to it; 2018 is an important year. There is the World Cup in Russia where a lot of things can be decided. If you score a goal in the final, you’ll have a great chance of winning the trophy as the best player, so I support him, and I think that sooner or later, he’ll win it.

“If it’s not this year, it’ll be next year, because he’s a player with a lot of potential. And the Brazilians are nostalgic about having one of their own as the best player in the world.”
