Nigeria Women – 65 all out in 16.1 overs (Joy Efosa 19, Oyewole Oyronke 13, Blessing Etim 6; Marie Bimenyimana 2/11, Veronique Iriho 1/6, Gisele Ishimwe 1/15)
Rwanda Women won by 37 runs
THE second ICC Women’s Qualifier Africa 2019 match at Takashinga today saw Rwanda Women beating Nigeria Women by 37 runs.
Nigeria put their opponents in to bat on winning the toss, and the innings ran in fits and starts.
After their first wicket fell in the opening over for five runs, Sifa Ingabire (12 off 27 balls) and Diane Dusabemungu (20 off 34) steadied the ship with a partnership of 32 for the fourth wicket, but it took them nine overs, not a healthy scoring rate for this form of the game.
After 15 overs five wickets were down for only 63 runs, and it took some desperate but quite successful hitting from Henriette Ishimwe (run out off the final delivery for 27 off 21 balls) and Antoinette Uwimbabazi (10 not out off 13) to take the score just past the 100-run mark.
The most successful bowlers for Nigeria were Taiwo Abdulquadri (one for 11) and Mary Desmond (two for 12), both off four overs.
Joy Efosa opened the innings for Nigeria and did her best to give her team a good start, scoring 19 off 25 balls, but she could not find a partner to stay with her, and when she was run out at 37 for five after nine overs, her team was in a lot of trouble.
Oyewole Oyronke did her best to take up the challenge, scoring 13 off 20 balls, but the rest of the middle order failed badly, and the whole team was dismissed in less than 17 overs to give Rwanda victory by 37 runs.
Rwanda’s most successful bowler was Marie Bimenyimana, who took two top-order wickets for 11 runs in her four overs. Zimcricket
