Something is wrong somewhere

Resolving Personal &
Spiritual Conflicts

2 Samuel 21:1Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord.If we adopt King David’s practice of consulting God in every tricky, difficult, and emergency situation, we shall deal wisely in all our affairs. But how naïve and gullible most people are that they only realise that something is wrong somewhere when the situation has gotten out of control and almost beyond redemption!
In business affairs, in marriage conflicts, in battles of life, in choosing friends or partners, in sickness and in every situation that requires the making of choices and dealing with other people, divine prudence and circumspection is a necessary requirement.

There are some people who are still smarting from a marriage or business problem that visited them in their moments of gullibility. Trusting other people is good but always verify their trustworthiness before you expose yourself too much. The Bible encourages us to completely trust in God but it discourages us from trusting people or even ourselves without the aid of divine revelation. Proverbs 3:5, 6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Jeremiah 17:5-7 puts it most clearly, “Cursed is the one who trusts in man … but blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.” Learn to inquire first of the Lord whether the way you want to take is right and the thing you want to do is good and the other people you are dealing with can be trusted. It takes time to inquire of the Lord and to wait for His answer but it is worth it in  the end.

One of the reasons the Christian man or woman is commanded to live like a soldier is that our earthly environment is unfriendly and unsafe since Satan is the god of this world.
It is foolhardy to regard this world as a safe place where everyone and everything is harmless to you. It is also a contradiction to the scriptural injunctions that in this world we shall have tribulation (John 16:33) and that our enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1Peter 5:8). Actually, things and people seeking your hurt in this world are too many. It is therefore wise for every sojourner passing through this world to adopt the soldierly qualities of vigilance and alertness (1Peter 5:8). Like the life of our Lord Jesus which was characterised by the setting up of traps, snares and evil devices by enemies to catch him anytime, so is the life of everyone of his followers for no servant can be above his master. We cannot make it in this life without aid of divine wisdom.

King David had his own fair share of weaknesses but there are many spiritual lessons we can draw from his walk with God. For instance he was very good at consulting God before he made any big decisions or choices.
Unlike many believers today who start projects on their own and then ask God mid-way to bless their projects or to save the projects from collapse, David was good at seeking divine guidance right at the beginning of anything important.

David frequently inquired of the Lord in times of emergencies and difficult circumstances. In most cases his situations demanded immediate action rather than prayer and waiting on God for direction but he held on to his practice of consulting God. That was the reason for his great success as a king and for winning favour with both God and man.

At one time David and his nation experienced three successive years of famine. David sensing that the situation was unusual and perplexing, enquired of the Lord. God revealed to him that the famine was caused by the killing of Gibeonites by Saul. Earlier on Joshua had unwittingly entered into a covenant with the Gibeonites not to kill them. By killing some of them Saul had violated that covenant and God was justly displeased. As punishment for that, God allowed famine to ravage the land for three consecutive years.

David was alert and vigilant. He knew that there was something  that was causing the famine to stay. You must  likewise be vigilant and alert in order to discern the departure of faithfulness in your marriage, of honest dealing in business and of divine anointing in your pastor. There is a connection between your present conditions and your relationship with God. If the conditions are distressing inquire of the Lord and He will show you where you missed him and how to rectify the situation.

Financial distress in the life of a Christian has a lot more to do with not paying tithes and abuse of money.
Marital unhappiness is frequently caused by some affair somewhere.
Business problems are normally rooted in lack of diligence and wisdom.
Inquiring of the Lord at the earliest possible time will always reveal the cause of the perpetuation of that problem and the solution to that conflict.
