Spanish band Swan to hold two shows
A graffiti artist, Raul Ruiz, better known as “El Niño de las Pinturas” (The Child of the Paintings) in the visual arts circles, also from Spain, jetted into the country and was yesterday painting the wall of the Spanish Cultural Centre in the city. He will do other graffitis during his stay in the country.
Swan and El Niño are visiting Zimbabwe for the first time as they join Zimbabwe in celebrating the Heroes festivities which will see several artistes performing in the Heroesplush musical show to be held at the Darwin High School in Mt Darwin tomorrow.
Swan’s shows will be supported by local artistes such as Abra Simmz, Freeman of the Joina City fame and many more popular dancehall artistes whose participation is yet to be confirmed.
The Spanish Embassy’s cultural attaché, Marina Garcia, said the two artists, together with their local counterparts, will also be running workshops during their stay “to open up new perspectives in plastic arts and to exchange ideas in the reggae/dancehall art form”.
“This new and innovative Spanish-Zimbabwean experience will encourage creative development and interaction with Zimbabwean singers and visual artists creating new ideas in the abstract arts in Zimbabwe,” said Garcia.
The two artists were brought in the country courtesy of the Embassy of Spain in collaboration with Music Crossroads, a local organisation that promotes upcoming artistes.
Both shows will be free of charge.
