Sunday Chidzambwa on verge of making history
ZIMBABWE coach Sunday Chidzambwa is on the verge of making Cosafa Cup history ahead of his side’s final against Zambia today.
Chidzambwa is looking to make it 15 games unbeaten in the competition, having won 12 and drawn two of the last 14 games at the helm, and is in line for an unprecedented third Cosafa Cup title as coach – a feat unmatched in the 20-year history of the tournament.
The Zimbabwe coach led the Warriors to victory in 2003 and 2009, while his brother Mishack was in charge as Zimbabwe took honours in 2000.
When asked about his good fortune in the tournament, Chidzambwa remained modest.
“I don’t know,” he told Cosafa media. “That question you’ll have to ask to the man above. Maybe it’s sheer luck or maybe coincidence.”
Chidzambwa’s last final victory was a 3-1 win over Zambia, the very same opponents they face on Sunday afternoon, with Zimbabwe in high spirits, having scored 16 goals in five unbeaten games in the tournament so far.
