Taking faith to the edge
Genuine faith never fails because it is a positive response to a divine directive. But a presumptuous faith that takes a leap in the dark without the prompting of God may land you in a pit of failure, shame, and unending regret.
If you could only embrace genuine faith this year, you would see the glory of God in a way you have never seen it before.
If you learn to throw away faith-limiting factors like knowing too much to learn new things, rigid adherence to unscriptural beliefs and traditions as well as holding on to preconceived notions about the way God works, there will be no limit to what the Holy One of Israel can do for you this leap year.
Can you take your faith to the edge and believe the incredible, receive the impossible and see the invisible? Perhaps before you answer that let me reveal to you the two necessary conditions for the attainment of such faith.
Firstly, be willing. Secondly, be obedient. The major prophet Isaiah says it clearly in chapter 1:19, “If ye be willing and obedient ye shall eat the good of the land.” Willingness and obedience are essential elements in our walking and working with God. Your success in life, marriage, education, business and ministry is not just a matter of divine favour or grace. It is a function of the delicate combination of divine favour and human choice.
Blessings do not just fall on people like raindrops; they are prepared for consciously and actively. You man, who wants to find a life partner this year, will you choose to seek among the available ladies and make a definite choice this year? You have been planning to start a business but have constantly deferred it due to poor economic environment. But will you choose to believe the wisdom that he who looks at the wind and the clouds will never sow and start it anyway this year?
You have always felt a deep conviction to change something but somehow the fear of the unknown has held you back. But will you choose to feel the fear and do it anyway? Will you choose to believe God for safety and preservation from evil despite your past involvement in, or first hand witness of, danger? You have always thought your desired miracle or breakthrough will take a long time to manifest. But will you believe in God’s power to compress a thousand years into one day and receive your miracle today? Can you choose to accept your perfect health based on the stripes of Jesus now and command that sickness to leave you? Can you choose to accept your wealth now and be content with what you have till God raises you to the next level?
At this point I know something has been stirred deep within your spirit. Willingness is now there. But willingness is not enough, go a step further and obey God’s directive.
Many people have the willingness but lack the obedience to act when God beckons. Their faith remains stunted and their lives dull and uneventful. When God gives a command to obey do not wish if He only meant it. He means what He says all the times. Be strong and courageous, and do it. Deuteronomy says to observe to do. Do not just be ready but go when it is time to. How do you know it is time to go? When God commands it, instructs it or demands it. Mary, the mother of Jesus had some rare spiritual perception. She had a perfect knowledge of the importance of obeying Christ’s instructions. She understood it as a condition necessary for divine working of miracles. When the wine ran out in the midst of the wedding celebrations, she, after talking to Jesus and got some kind of rebuff, still advised the waiters, “Whatsoever he sayeth unto you, do it” (John 2:5). They obeyed Jesus’ instruction to fill pots with water and they were amazed when it turned into the best of wine.
When Jesus was moved with pity at the hopeless mourning of Martha, he commanded her to take away the stone that closed the opening of Lazarus’ grave. She began to give excuses, reasons and explanations as to why the instruction could not be carried out. She almost blew it. Instead of taking her faith to the edge and take away the stone she tried to limit the power of God through knowing too much.
Stretch your faith to the limit and dare to see the glory of God. God specialises in doing the impossible why don’t you give Him a chance to do it for you this year?
