Thomas Muller says he fails to see how Spanish giants Barcelona can be termed a better side than his current Bundesliga club.

Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller says he fails to see how Spanish giants Barcelona can be termed a better side than his current Bundesliga club.

The Catalans have been in fine form since their treble-winning campaign last year, as they lead the La Liga standings, have qualified for the Spanish Cup Final and have one foot in the quarter-finals of this year’s Uefa Champions League.

Equally so, Bayern Munich are at the summit of the Bundesliga standings, have qualified for the semi-finals of the DFB Pokal and hold a 2-2 away scoreline against Juventus in their Last 16 European Cup tie.

And Muller, who has been in fine form with 25 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions to his name, doesn’t not feel his Spanish counterparts are superior.

“Barcelona are in a good moment and they come from winning the treble last season,” the Germany international told Sport1. “But I see Bayern as one of the strongest in Europe, naturally alongside Barcelona.

“Bayern are first in the [Bundesliga], are one game away from a cup final, and got a good result away in the first leg of the round of 16.

“I don’t know where they are better than us.”

There is a chance to the two continental heavyweights may meet in European competition again as they did last season, with Barca emerging victorious with a 5-3 aggregate win in the semi-finals, yet Muller feels his side will be ready should they be drawn against the Blaugrana once more.

“You can see every week how good they are, but also you can see our games and say ‘Yes, they are also very strong’,” he said.

“If we find ourselves up against Barcelona again, we will be prepared.”
