Tiger Woods’ son Charlie, 15, fails in bid to qualify for PGA Tour event
Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of golf legend Tiger, saw his hopes of playing in the PGA Tour’s Cognizant Classic end with a 16-over-par 86 at a pre-qualifying event.
Woods junior was competing at Lost Lake Golf Club hoping to reach his first PGA Tour event.
The teenager made 11 pars on his round.
However, his scorecard also included four bogeys, two double bogeys and a costly 12 on the par-four seventh hole.
The top 25 players and ties advance to Monday’s final qualifier, with four then earning places in the main field.
Rory McIlroy will be among the stars playing for a prize fund of £7.1m at the PGA National in Florida next week.
The teenage Woods has competed at the past four stagings of the PNC Championship exhibition event alongside his father, who was forced to withdraw during the Genesis Invitational last week because of illness.
Charlie Woods finished tied 17th in the boys’ 14-15 division of last year’s Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship, with 15-time major champion Tiger acting as his caddie. – bbc.com
