Transforming living spaces
TRANSFORMING a living space into a home that you truly identify with can be a difficult task, but it can also be fun. It gives you a chance to express yourself and your creativity it many different ways. While looking at paints for different rooms try and keep a theme in mind. You could want a modern or classical look, or you could try to use cool colours or add a splash of a loud vibrant colour to give the room some character. You can even use different home decoration techniques to make a space larger, or accentuate certain parts of a room or house. Before you start the actual painting process, it is a good idea to have all your colours picked out.
For a living room or dining room, it is best to use neutral colours like browns and beiges to give a formal look and feeling to the room. Browns and beiges work well with yellow lights and black furniture. A touch of light orange or light peach can help add a little colour to your living room or dining room. The colours can be used to break the monotony of the browns and beiges, and can liven up the room. To make the room less formal and more regal, you can add a touch of violet to either an entire wall, or just a section of a wall, which adds a certain amount of character to the room.
For a bedroom, you could use either cool or warm colours. Different shades of blue can be used together in a number of ways to give your room a calming feeling. Shades of green can be used to accentuate different parts of the room, and matching curtains and bed sheets can really finish off the cool feeling in the room. Mixed with light purples and browns, the room might even look like the sea at sunset, a truly tranquil experience. Old and vintage wooden furniture works well in such rooms, giving the entire room a rustic look, and tends to calm people in the area.
For a more vibrant and energetic room, you can turn up the temperature and energy by using reds, yellows and oranges. Depending on the combinations you use them in, the colours might be a bold statement, or could even come together in perfect harmony to help energise the entire room. No matter which colour combination you use while painting your home, always remember to compliment the colours with the correct lighting and the correct furniture to complete the look of your dream home. — James Carri
