UK music teacher in Zim

Sherwood, who will be accompanied by Zimbabwe’s internationally-acclaimed pianist Jeanette Micklem, will play works by Dvorak, Turina, Part, Hubay, Kreisler and de Sarasate. He has been in Zimbabwe to adjudicate at the 2011 Eisteddfod in Harare and performs at the conclusion of his visit to the country.
He was born in Kenya and raised in Zimbabwe, receiving violin training from Leo Birsen. He later studied at the Royal College of Music and then taught in Bulawayo before moving to Britain, joining the orchestra at Covent Garden. Since then Sherwood has freelanced with several other orchestras and travelled extensively in Eastern Europe, the United States, the Far East and Africa. He was professor of violin at Trinity College of Music for 20 years.
The Celebs recital will be at 4pm this Sunday at the Harare International School Theatre. Advance booking can be made at The Spotlight.
