Use body as instrument of righteousness
It is quite puzzling to some that God, who is love, should find a place in His heart to foster hatred. But the scriptures say it in no uncertain terms that our loving God has a catalogue of things that He hates. The point is that in life there are evil things and good things. You cannot be a lover of both good and evil. As such once you love the one thing you must hate the other one.
The Scripture says that we cannot love both God and Satan. Light and darkness cannot harmonise; to defend and uplift the one is to attack and overthrow the other. So it is in the harmony of scriptures and the reality of things for God to love all that is good and to hate all that is evil.
And if we are God’s children, we must be like our Father in loving what He loves and hating what He hates. King David brings out this truth most plainly when he prayed, “O Lord, shouldn’t I hate those who hate you? Shouldn’t I despise those who oppose you? Yes, I hate them with total hatred, for your enemies are my enemies” (Psalms 139:21-22). Like Father, like son; oh what a wonderful solidarity!
The person who said that God loves a sinner but hates sin had a glimpse of this revelation; for all the seven things listed below that God hates are all sins. Proverbs 6:16,17 lists these sins, “There are six things the Lord hates – no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.” As each of these sins is explained pray that God will reveal to your mind the one(s) which exist in your own life.
It should not come as a surprise that pride tops the list of things hateful to God. It was pride or haughtiness that led to Lucifer’s fall and the introduction of sin into the world. Someone said that all our problems today stem from that proud disobedience of Satan. It is no wonder that God hates pride and judges it harshly. The scriptures show us that pride has nothing good for us. Pride invokes God’s hatred (Proverbs 8:13). Pride comes with shame (Proverbs 11:2). Pride brings contention (Proverbs 13:10). Pride brings a man down (Proverbs 29:23). And the worst of all is that pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:18). Search yourself and see if you do not you have a proud look. The pride of Christians is not open but subtle. One sure sign of being a proud person is placing yourself in a certain class and you do not greet or mix with those you think belong to a lower class. Repent from looking down on others. Find ways to uplift them to a higher level.
Falsehood or a lying tongue is another sin God hates. It separates the best of friends. It damages the image of another. It perverts justice. Satan is the father of lies, so do not apply to be adopted as his child. God’s perfect hatred of murder is seen in the commandment not to kill. But the root of killing is uncontrollable anger. Pray for a cool temper.
A devious heart is an abomination to the Lord because it is filled with evil devices and imaginations. The Bible categorically presents the heart as the source of all kinds of evil. In Mark 7:20-23 Jesus said, “That which cometh out of man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornication, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.” Jeremiah 17:9 bares it all: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” No wonder why Proverbs 4:23 instructs to guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Always imitate David and who pray often, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life” (Psalms 139:23-24).
The last three things hateful to God are feet that rush into forbidden areas, false witness that speak lies and sowers of discord among brethren. These three form the group of busybodies; people who are found in all the wrong places, doing all the wrong things and saying all the wrong things.
These ones must learn to mind their own business and preserve holiness in the fear of the Lord.
