Warriors move up in Fifa rankings
THE Zimbabwe Senior soccer team, the Warriors, have moved one place up in the latest FIFA World Rankings released on May 4 2017 and are now at number 110 on the global list and 29 on the African continent.
The Warriors have so far played a nil all friendly match against former African Champions, Zambia, in March. Since then, the warriors have not played any competitive match.
Egypt have maintained their position on top of the African list and 19 in the world.
The Warriors were ranked 103 at the beginning of the year before a dismal display at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon which saw the team dropping to 111 last month before the latest rankings results of 110 despite having not played any competitive match.
Zimbabwe has failed to break into the top 100 nations for the past five years, having ascended to position 98 in 2011.
The Warriors have only played one match since the AFCON finals played in January, a nil all draw international friendly against Zambia.
Zimbabwe’s next competitive fixture is on next month at home against Liberia to be played during the international break between 5 and 13 June.
The best mover this month was Madagascar‚ who moved up 9 places to number 111 on the world list and 30 on Africa‚ while the biggest drop was from Malawi‚ who slipped 14 places to number 114 and 32 on World and African list respectively. sportbrief.co.zw
