What Diego Costa told referee revealed

Diego Costa is no stranger to controversy

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa received a straight red card against FC Barcelona without making contact with an opposition player and it’s since been revealed why.

Following a seemingly innocuous challenge in midfield, Costa was visibly riled up by an incident.

He shouted towards the referee some metres away, and as the official went to his pocket, the striker continued his verbal tirade.

It’s been reported that the striker could face a ban of up to 12-games for his latest controversy within his colourful football career.

According to the referees’ submitted report Costa had used strong language insulting the mother of the official.

“In minute 28 the player (19) Da Silva Costa, Diego, was sent off for the following reason: He came at me with a loud voice, saying: ‘me cago en tu puta madre! me cago en tu puta madre!’

According to Spanish publication AS, the phrase translates into: “I sh#% on your wh@#! mother.” – kickoff.com
