Willard Katsande signs new three-year extension with Kaizer Chiefs
KAIZER Chiefs have confirmed Willard Katsande has signed a new three-year contract at Naturena.
The midfield maestro has proved a vital cog in the Amakhosi machine, although his current deal expires in June, and contract talks between the parties have been lengthy.

However, Chiefs have since confirmed a new deal has been signed with Katsande, who missed a penalty in the 1-1 Soweto Derby draw against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

Speaking hours before the deal was announced, Chiefs coach Steve Komphela spoke of his desire to retain the midfielder’s services, while also backing the Zimbabwean to bounce back from his penalty miss against Orlando Pirates in Saturday’s Soweto Derby. Kick.com
sportbrief.co.zw reports, that the 31-year-old anchorman joined the Absa premier league giant from Ajax Cape Town in 2011 and has since grown to be an integral part of the club.
Although his current deal expires in June, and contract talks between the two parties have been lengthy, the hard marking man has finally put pen to paper for a three year deal at Naturena.
“Contract we been talking for long.So it was the right time for us to agree,” Katsande told sportbrief.co.zw
Speaking to Sportbrief from his base in South Africa, Katsande said is happy to have finally sealed a deal with the club he now regards as a family home.
“I am very happy trying to get to my target I put for myself. My family is happy to be at chiefs and they are now addicted to the culture of the team,” he said.
On missing a penalty during a game against Orlando pirates over the weekend, Katsande said it’s very normal in the game of football, citing big names in the football arena who have missed penalties during crucial games.
“Missing a penalty it’s part of the game, Messi missed a penalty for Argentina to win copa America final, ” Katsande said.

Katsande skippered Zimbabwe at the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon in January, the third captain to manage that feat after the legendary Peter Ndlovu and Benjani Mwaruwari in 2004 and 2006 respectively.
However, the Warriors under the guidance of former coach Kalisto Pasuwa displayed a lackluster show managing only a 2-2 draw against the Desert Foxes of Algeria in the opening group match of the campaign with further defeats to Senegal (2-0)and Tunisia(4-2) confirm their exit from the tournament in the first round with a single victory to show for it.
Pasuwa has since paid the price for it after Zifa decided against renewing his contract.
Katsande had also issued a quit threat to the international game saying he wanted to concentrate on club football.
However, he has since rescinded his decision and is expected to lead the Warriors in 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in June.
