2010: The year of daring to act

The prophet Joel once lamented when he saw multitudes and multitudes of people waiting in the valley of decision and warned them of the impending judgment of God. In other words, procrastination in implementing sound decisions brings delay, danger and destruction.
Joel’s prophecy is still applicable to our setting today. Some of us waste precious time in Cabinet meetings, parliament sittings, corporate  boardrooms  and church offices brainstorming and exchanging brilliant ideas, excellent strategies and viable projects which are not followed up with implementation. Your power to decide should be coupled with the power to execute or do what has been decided on.
Successful people make prompt decisions and persist in carrying those decisions to completion but those who fail usually hesitate, vacillate and waver in their decision-making process and are not persistent in adhering to the decisions made.
This year God has planned to multiply and magnify all your efforts towards success and happiness. The scripture says it plainly that God is able to do exceeding abundantly above what you may think or ask. Take the initiative to think, ask, decide and do and watch God augment your efforts like he did the footfalls of the four lepers.  But if you do not take the initiative, your zero effort will be multiplied by any positive number of God’s effort and the result will be zero, nothing.
Dare to act on your beliefs this year.  Belief is good but action is better. It was Arnold H. Glasgow who rightly said, “An idea not coupled with action will never get any bigger than the brain cell it occupies.” And the Lord Jesus said “if you know these things blessed are you if you do them” and “be ye not hearers only, deceiving yourselves but doers of the word.’  Doing cannot be overemphasised.
One sage said, “Knowing what to do and then doing it constitutes the whole philosophy of practical life.”
Dare to act on what you know is a noble cause. Stop commiserating, complaining about the difficulties and impossibilities standing in the path of your success like the 10 spies sent by Moses to spy on Canaan land. When they came back they honestly reported that surely the land was flowing with milk and honey. But the tragedy was that they regarded the walled cities and giants occupying the land as impenetrable and invincible. They lost hope, gave up and began to murmur about their being grasshoppers in the sight of those giants.
If you have a convincing conviction that your cause is noble, do not be a cry-baby, take courage and do it without waiting for the conditions to be right. Further, the Holy Ghost stands ready to direct your steps and to instruct you in the way you should go about it as well as to give you what to say in moments of your being scrutinised by your competitors and enemies.
This year, you need to be like Caleb who stilled those 10 weaklings and advocated for immediate action to possess the rich land believing and counting on God’s help. God commended him for possessing a different spirit. The complaining 10 spies were possessed of the spirit of timidity and suffered from a defeatist attitude while Caleb and Joshua possessed a daring spirit that was coupled with a gonna-get-it attitude.
God is saying to you that this year you will get what you go after. But there is a risk involved; there are walls of limitations erected to keep you away from your goal, possessions and desires.  Your winning strategy is to believe that God has given it to you and the forces facing you are just place holders, they will find you irresistible and unstoppable as you move towards your goal.
Dare to do it this year — whatever it is you want to do. Be it writing a book, singing a song, preaching a sermon, starting a business, choosing a life partner etc.
The glad tidings is that when put your foot in the Jordan river, you will find the waters beginning to part for your safe crossing. Like Mary and her company you will find the dreaded stone closing the tomb of Jesus already rolled away.  Like the four lepers you will find the camp of your enemies deserted with a great spoil left behind as your prize for daring to act.
