ZIMBABWE is confident that its representatives will deliver outstanding performances at the 2026 Bonaqua Africa Triathlon Cup in Troutbeck Resort in Nyanga on Saturday.

The country will be represented by the country’s leading elite female triathlete, Andie Kuipers, as well as junior competitors such as Callum Smith and Zander Botha.

The president of Triathlon Zimbabwe, Ross O’Donoghue, is confident that local athletes will hold their own against 300 athletes from all over the world.

“Andie is our sole elite athlete and has trained diligently in Australia. We have high hopes for her performance given the outstanding improvement she has shown over the past year,” said O’Donoghue.

He added that they were happy to have attracted 12 nations for the 19th edition of the Bonaqua Africa Triathlon Cup.

“This year’s event brings together athletes from countries such as South Africa, Namibia, Egypt, Japan, and the Netherlands. We expect between 250 and 300 entries, making this a remarkable occasion for all involved.

“It’s not just about the elite; we’ll have events for every age group, including children’s races, making it a true festivity for all,” said O’Donoghue.

He revealed that the competition schedule features a variety of events beyond the main triathlon race, including trail running, mountain biking, open water swimming, and multiple distance options.

“We have the standard and sprint distances for our main triathlon events, along with super sprints for the younger categories and dedicated kids’ events.

“This ensures that every participant finds a challenge suitable for their skill level,” O’Donoghue said.

According to the president of Triathlon Zimbabwe, cottages and hotels in Nyanga are expected to enjoy high occupancy this year.

“We anticipate approximately 250 bed nights over three days, providing a substantial economic boost to the area.

“The media attention surrounding the cup will also showcase the beauty and potential of the Eastern Highlands as a tourist destination.

“All international elite athletes will be accommodated at the Troutbeck Resort and nearby Blue Swallows timeshare.

“With most nearby cottages already booked, the local accommodations are preparing for a bustling weekend,” said O’Donoghue.
