THE government has appointed an 11-member board to oversee the affairs of the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz).
The new board will be chaired by Sam Takavarasha Jnr, and he will be deputised by Barbara Mukahanana.
Other members are Tofara Audrey Nyoni, Michelle Madyira, Sebastian Masimba Guwuriro, Siyakha Njabuliso Mthunzi, Miriam Mugwati, Caos Nzenze, Maneta Linnys Dzauma, Prince Mushaninga and Prince Sibanda, who will be the ministry’s technical representative on the board.
The announcement was made by ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera, who was accompanied by her deputy minister Dingumuzi Phuti and permanent secretary Beulah Chirmed during a press briefing at the ministry’s headquarters in Harare on Monday.
Also in attendance were Potraz director-general Gift Machengete and deputy Alfred Marisa, senior officials from the ministry, and other stakeholders.
The new board has been expanded to 11 members, up from the previous seven and earlier four-member structure.
The increase reflects the rapid growth and advancement of Zimbabwe’s telecommunications and technology sector.
The previous Potraz board was chaired by Tawanda Zvobgo, who passed away in December last year.
