If you are a child of God who is smarting from the failures and disappointments of last year you are the primary target for this week’s message. You might have tried to figure out the root cause of your failures to no avail. Now the fear of failure is about to overwhelm you, and you are not sure whether this year will bring you any hope or luck. But the most worrying thing to you is that you are fully persuaded like Job that you are righteous yet trouble has become your close friend. You even blame God for being unfair with you. You observe all the tenets, creed and rules of your church but somehow failure remains your lot. The spirit of bitterness, envy and strife has now taken hold of you against those brethren for whom things seem to be well. You wish just like Job you had the chance to drag God to the court and ask Him why none of your dreams come to pass. You have had a check-up of your brain but the prognosis was good. You checked your faithfulness in tithing and giving and were pleased with your consistence. So what on earth has bewitched you, my dear? Well, before you consider the advice from Job’s wife to curse God and die let me bring your attention to yet another check-up. Child of God, forget your ego and take good advice; check your conversation. Could there be any link between your troubles and your tongue? Apostle James argues, in his discourse on the tongue that it can set the world on fire. He used strong words in his description of the power of the tongue for example he called it deadly poison. James compared the power of the tongue to control the affairs of the whole life of an individual to the bits that control the whole body of a horse and the rudder that governs a great ship. This vivid comparison illustrates the almost unknown truth that the tongue, though a small member of the body, has great ability to influence one’s life for good or for worse.
Proverbs 6:2 says that you are ensnared with the words of your mouth. You are taken captive by what you say. All this means that whatever you speak becomes part of you sooner or later. You are either justified by your words or condemned by your words. If you talk failure you get failure. If you talk success you get success. This is based on the law of confession given in Mark 11:23, you shall have whatever you say. Take note, it says whatever you say, not whatever you mean. Some people, due to ignorance of this law, postpone or delay their marriages, financial harvests, material gain or promotions with negative words from their own mouth.
Some well-meaning sisters delay their marriages by constantly declaring that they are married to Jesus yet deep down in their hearts they are desperate for a husband. They get whatever they say with their mouth. It is true that believers are married to Christ but Remember, all increase or decrease in your life comes by your tongue. So start to increase yourself in every area with the proper use your of tongue.
