Zim’s Buffalo Souljah featured on Channel O
Mzansi stars come no hotter than Da LES and Buffalo Souljah.
Channel O’s mega artist profile show Amplified is set to sizzle in the month of February.
On Saturday 21 February Amplified will profile two-time Channel O award-winning Zimbabwean artist Buffalo Souljah.
Amplified caught up with the Dancehall/Ragga artist at the video shoot of his new single Type of Guy – a collabo which features the likes of Namibian duo Gal Level and Malawi’s finest hip-hop artist Taygrin. Bigg Buff as his peers call him and DJ Waxxy give us the lowdown on how they plan to take Dancehall and Ragga music to greater heights.
Buffalo Souljah — real name Thabani Ndlovu — composed his first song Zuva Randisingakanganwe [The Day I Will Never Forget] at the tender age of eight. This song was inspired by a hilarious childhood incident in which he and his late brother were chased by some baboons after having taunted and provoked them.
Like many who are so naturally talented, Buffalo Souljah owes his talent, to the stuff coursing through his veins. It turns out that his father too was a musician — a jazz artist and saxophonist who worked with the famous Thomas Mapfumo in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.
After working with a number of South African artists and featuring on their albums in 2000, he had the experience of running with Ghanaian artist Kweku aka Instinct in 2002. Buffalo was later involved in a group called the Street Disciples and they dropped the album The Chosen Ones under the label Da Apostles.
These days Buffalo is rolling with the big guns and is plying his trade under HotWax productions which is owned by the one and only DJ Waxxy.
But before the Big Buff, this Saturday February 7 at 19:00, the big O is going to be on fire as the spotlight shines on Da L.E.S aka Mr Fresh-to-def.
The show goes behind the scenes of his brand new hit single Fire — which is produced by Bongani Fassie and features rapper extraordinaire Maggz. From the Director to the D.O.P – Leslie takes us through the paces of recording the high energy paced music video while Bongz (Bongani Fassie) gives us the scoop on exactly how he manages to keep making such great hits. “It’s not as hard as you think it is… it all comes from the inside,” says Bongz.
Lesley Mampe (aka Da L.E.S) is a member of the group Jozi, the brainchild of some of South Africa’s most talented artists: Bongani Fassie (aka Bongs) and Ishmael (aka Ishmizzie). Together they have created a sound they dub ‘Motherland Crunk’ which is also the title of the 2007 album that has seen Jozi gain fans both in South Africa and abroad.
