The language of faith

The grand life of faith is expressed through action and language. Dead faith lacks the vital ingredient of action, but living faith is demonstrated through corresponding action. Faith has got its own kind of language. Faith’s language is called confession.
Confession comes in either a negative form or a positive form. Negative confession is done when one acknowledges his sins before God in humble repentance. For example 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Forgiveness of sins is always preceded by a humble confession of sin in repentance. Any unconfessed sin is an unforgiven sin.
However, this initial negative confession of sin is meant to lead to a life of positive confession of what God says in any given aspect of life.
Positive confession is saying with the mouth what one believes in the heart. It is agreeing with God in the heart enough to say what God says, to speak God’s words, to use God’s expressions and declarations, to acknowledge God’s word.
Now if confession of faith is saying from your heart what God says, then the writer of Hebrews gives us an exquisite demonstration of the language of faith. He gives us these words of promise from God’s own mouth: ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’
So when you go through fearsome situations you are expected by God to believe that He is with you as He promised.
But believing only is not enough you should speak out your faith boldly by saying, ‘The Lord is my helper and I shall not fear what man can do unto me.’ This is the positive confession of faith. Why the heck are you supposed to speak the language of faith? It is because whenever you venture out in faith there will always be something in the natural realm of circumstances to flatly contradict your faith.
Remember that faith deals with the invisible spiritual realities. You may be a barren wife and have tried everything to have babies, but to no avail. But when you lay your finger on the verse that says God makes the barren woman a mother of children you must believe that God means what He says there.
Then when you are fully persuaded that God is able to perform what He has promised, you must begin to express your faith through positive confession and action. In this case it means you must begin to call yourself a mother of children and expect to have them irrespective of what your medical practitioners have said.
Thank God for their diagnosis which is really true according to their knowledge but remember there are things like demons and witchcraft which cause havoc to human life and do not succumb to medical methods of research and diagnosis.
The perfect walk of faith is depicted in the historic life of Jesus Christ who diagnosed Lazarus’s sickness as not unto death so when He heard the news that he actually had died He told His disciples that Lazarus was asleep and he was going to awake him. That was faith expressed in words.
When he arrived at Lazarus’ tomb four days after burial he commanded the bereaved to remove the stone from the opening of the grave in spite of protests that that action was no longer helpful as his body was already stinking.
That was marvelous expression of faith in action. Jesus always spoke what he wanted to see, not what was there in the actual circumstances. So let us imitate Him.
