God shows up to show off
It is for lack of perfect confidence in God that we remain unhelped and spend our days in the midst of wars, tumults and conflicts. The opening scripture clearly reveals how the Almighty God’s eyes are looking pitifully and longingly at us.
He stands like a sentry ready to be the first to assist us, but we do not call on Him and we would rather look elsewhere for help.
This should grieve His heart as He is always saying to Himself, “If only he will simply trust in me in this conflict of his I will show up on his behalf and show off my unmatched strength to his foes.”
We often complain that we lack help and desperately look for creature aid. Like King Asa of Judah, we find false security and hope in the covenants we cut with human helpers. Yet nothing would gives God greater pleasure than to intervene strongly on our behalf.
With Him we will immediately renounce all other confidants and helpers. All He demands of us is a heart that is perfect in the simplicity and frankness of its faith in God. His eyes are constantly scanning the whole world and therefore, no sorrow, trial, temptation and danger visits us without exciting His notice and loving sympathy.
However, He cannot just show up and show off in our conflicts without us seeking for His help.
Will you stop trusting the failing human aid and put your trust in the never-failing ability of God today? You need to always remind God of His entire responsibility to help you in times of need like this, “Lord, there is none beside you to help me. If you will not deliver me from trouble, no one will. If you will not show yourself strong on my behalf I will be like them that go down into the pit.”
The reason many do not pray such desperate prayers of supplications is because they are proud and have other sources of help. Human aid is their trust and therefore, their first port of call.
They only make recourse to God as a last resort and when they finally come to God they try to put Him to the test by dictating to Him how they want to be assisted and when they must get the help. But God cannot be fiddled with.
You may die in your sickness like Asa if you defy God’s prescription of praying and seeking Him in your afflictions. If the only strength you count on is human strength, then your strength will cause you to faint in adversity because it is very little indeed.
The Bible says he who faints in adversity has little strength. You need the inexhaustible matchless strength of God.
Beloved, it may be that that your difficulty has been allowed to come to so alarming a pitch that you may be compelled to renounce all creature aid, to which in lesser trials you have had recourse, and cast yourself back on your Almighty Friend.
Put God between yourself and your foe. Believe that He is there between you and your difficulty and what baffles you will flee before Him as clouds before the gale. Identify your cause with His as you realise that you are in covenant with Him.
If you are in covenant with God then the principle of casus belli applies, which means that an insult to the smaller you is deemed an insult to your Almighty Friend. An attack on an ambassador is deemed as casus belli by his covering government.
So you are invincible as an ambassador of Christ. The moment anyone begins to attack you, the all-seeing eye of God sees it and immediately He shows up in the scene to show himself strong on your behalf.
