The secrets of daily sun care

According to the preferred testing amounts, you should be using a four-ounce bottle of sunscreen during a single eight-hour day at the beach. Most of us don’t use nearly that much. So instead of applying enough to actually reach an SPF 15 rating, we use less and diminish the SPF value. Further, when you perspire or wipe your skin with a towel, you lessen some of the sunscreen’s effectiveness.
For this reason, many dermatologists advocate using sunscreen with a higher SPF (30 or above), especially if you are at high risk of skin cancer. Even if you use an SPF 30 sunscreen, it might only carry an SPF of 15, depending on how much is applied.
Sun care products should consist of an association of filters that absorb the sun’s UV rays and keep them from penetrating the skin. Mineral pigments that reflect UV rays and complement the filtering system.
It is indispensable to chose a protection factor which is adapted to your phototype, making sure it offers dual UVA and UVB protection.
The following sun care guidelines will help protect you from the damage that can lead to skin damage and eventually may even lead to skin cancer.
Sunscreen     
Choose products with an SPF of 15 or higher; water-resistant products will  be effective up to 40 minutes in the water.
Facial moisturiser
SPF 15 or higher included in your day cream moisturiser.
Clothing and hats
Choose sun-blocking clothing such as tightly woven fabrics in dark colours, which keep out more UV light than lighter shades (a white cotton T-shirt has UPF of 8; jeans, 100+). A hat with a 3-inch-wide brim is best.
Sunglasses
Look for glasses that cover the skin around the eyes and block no less than 99 percent of UVA and UVB rays.
Lip balm
SPF of 15 or higher.
While it’s never too late to take care of your skin, the damage you already have will be difficult to reduce without all the above sun precautions. If you haven’t yet reached your later years as yet, the best skin care advice is to follow a good skin care regimen including sun care protection at an early age.
