History through art: Berlin Wall Exhibition
Hosted by the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, the exhibition runs until 30 November. The photographs were shot and compiled by arts journalist, Maxwell Sibanda during a scholarship stay in Germany.
The Ambassador of Germany, Dr Albrecht Conse, officially opened the exhibition attended by journalists, academics and German nationals living in Zimbabwe.
Dr Conse said: “We need historians and artists to remind us of this turning point of world history”.
National Gallery of Zimbabwe director Doreen Sibanda said the gallery found it fitting to host the exhibition, which was an international symbol meaning many things to different people all over the world. She said:
“Everyone knows that the entire episode refers to so much more than the physical fall of the wall but also the fall of all things that the wall’s divisive presence stood for”.
A discussion on the fall of the Wall and how it relates to African internal conflicts will take place on 27 November at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe.
