New HD channels on DStv
The channels, aimed at keeping Africa up to date with the global revolution in digital pay-television technology, will immediately benefit viewers with HD PVRs across Southern Africa and include SuperSport HD and the Discovery HD, which not only add value but complement the popular M-Net HD channel launched in August 2008 simultaneously with the HD PVR.
“It must be remembered that only DStv Premium subscribers with an HD PVR decoder are able to access the HD channels, as the standard definition channels do not pick up or display the HD channels,” said Liz Dziva, public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe.
“Customers who do not have the HD PVR decoder will need to buy one to receive and interpret the HD signals,” she added.
The cutting-edge HD PVR decoder allows for high levels of flexibility as it gives subscribers an opportunity to view one channel and record two other channels at the same time.
With 150 hours of Standard Definition (SD) and 50 hours of HD storage on its hard drive, the HD PVR has unparalleled recording capacity which allows for significantly increased recording by DStv subscribers of their favourite programmes.
The new technology also facilitates sub-titling, which addresses the multi-lingual needs of subscribers.
SuperSport HD (DStv channel 171) provides coverage of the world’s top sports events, all covered in HD and including the best of the English Premier League, La Liga football and US PGA golf.
