Ezekiel 15:2 What is the vine tree more than any tree?
The vine tree has a special purpose which is to bear fruit. And the only one best use for the vine is to bear fruit. If a vine tree succeeds in producing wood like any other tree but fails to do its core business of producing fruit, it has failed its life assignment. Consequently, the vine will be worthless.

Likewise, one purpose and end of the believers’ redemption and salvation is that they should bring forth fruit unto God. If they fail to do that they are unprofitable.
Right from creation, God’s desire and intention in creating a man in His likeness and image is that man may be fruitful and multiply. In fact man was commanded by God to be fruitful. It is written in Genesis 2:27-28: “So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God created him; male and female He created them.

And God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.” Notice the sequence in the commandments: Fruitful, multiply, subdue and have dominion.

Fruitfulness comes first and multiplication, subjugation and dominion all are dependent on fruitfulness. In simple terms, in every area of your life where fruitfulness is lacking, in that same area of your life there will be no multiplication and dominion.
Fruitfulness differentiates a vine tree from other trees that only produce firewood. In the same way believers are separated from the heathen because of fruits. Believers produce good fruits inspired by the Holy Spirit whilst the heathen produce evil fruits inspired by the devil. If you think about it, naturally trees that produce bad fruits or no fruits at all are many; whereas trees that produce good fruits are very few.

In the same way, people who produce fruits of the flesh are more than those who produce fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:19-23). So when a believer fails to produce fruits of the Spirit he or she is no different from an unbeliever. As a result that believer is unprofitable.

What fruit should a disciple of Christ produce? Fruitfulness does not always mean activity, running around doing things or working for God. It means the bearing of the sweet fruits of the Spirit which consist largely in temper and disposition. It refers to building up of good character and doing of good deeds. Galatians 5 verses 22 and 23 lists the fruits that make good character as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
How do we produce the fruits? It should neither be by effort or by struggle but by the working of the Holy Spirit and God’s word on the inside of us. Let us often remember that we are only vine branches of no intrinsic worth and only useful when the sap of the vine is passing through us.

Let us allow God’s word to fill our hearts and minds and let the Holy Spirit direct and control us in speech, thought and action and we shall produce the good fruits in abundance. And the more good fruit we produce in every area of our lives, the more multiplication of good things we will have. And we shall have dominion over the world, the flesh and the devil as well. The Bible says we are known by our fruits? Which fruits are you known by? Good or bad?
