Big Brother Africa reality show back
The continent’s ultimate reality show will launch on July 18 and will be screened live 24/7 for 91 days on DStv channel 198 for premium and compact subscribers.
Elizabeth Dziva, public relations and publicity manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said the new series would be launched only days after the newest World Cup champions are crowned.
“The scene is set for the most dramatic Big Brother Africa seen yet,” said Dziva.
“The prize money this year is a whopping US$200 000 once again, so it will be well and truly a breathtaking new game for the contestants on board,” she said.
Breaking with tradition, M-Net won’t be calling for entries for the new show, head-hunting instead from a database of previous entries submitted for the show.
Big Brother fans in over 40 countries across the continent are going to get a show that’s more edgy, more tactically challenging and more intensely strategic than ever before.
“What a great event this will be, with the return of a well-loved show for an incredible fifth time. We all felt season four — Big Brother Revolution, was special and the excitement and response exceeded all expectations.
“We want to invest more broadly in season five and having already been introduced to a world of interesting characters from previous searches, there’s huge talent available for us to draw from and we don’t need to waste time and effort going beyond them,” said Dziva.
“In the past a lot of time and money has been spent finding contestants in 14 countries. This year, the producers are using these funds to develop a gutsy new series, recreating the house in a very different way and focusing on putting new technology into place.”
One technological change already in place is that this year DStv channel 198 will feature two television feeds so that audiences can choose to move from one Big Brother feed to another.
At any one time there will be two streams of video and audio coming out of the house and audiences can simply pick the one that they wish to watch.
“The rules governing conspiracy and alliance will be given a radical new perspective, ensuring that audiences will be in the mood to once again follow the action closely and enjoy another great African experience,” she said.
This year’s contestants will again be drawn from 14 countries: Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The ultimate power of evicting housemates from the house remains is firmly in the hands of the voting public.
