Clarins: We care
In 1954, Jacques Courtin-Clarins decided to “take beauty seriously” and developed one unique philosophy: Develop a dialogue with women to satisfy their desires for well-being and respect them by offering a range of the best plant-based skin care products distinguished by their innovation and effectiveness.
These products and their application methods met with immediate success.
On this basis, in the early 90s the group became the European leader in skin care products and expanded into two other cosmetics segments: Make-up and perfume, through four prestige brands: Clarins, Thierry Mugler, Azzaro and Stella Cadente.
Today, the group has well-established worldwide reputation supported by an expanding international network of 20 distribution subsidiaries, a presence in 150 countries, a gross workforce of 6 100 employees, 19 000 points of sale and net sales approaching the one billion euros milestone:
The Clarins universe
is infinite!
Love is behind everything we do
Loving souls are creative souls, which is why we create products for every beauty need and desire. We know that every person is unique and we listen to each and every one of them. We know that money makes no difference when love is concerned, so we’ve given our laborotories only one directive: Offer the very best.
To us, love also means being available. That’s why we are always there to accompany, guide and give advice. Lastly, love also means making the world a better place. That’s why we protect nature because she gives us the rarest and the most effective ingredients. It’s a fact. With Clarins, life’s more beautiful.
“I created Clarins out of love and respect for women’s beauty.” — Jacques Courtin-Clarins.
After his medical studies, Jacques Courtin-Clarins dedicated himself to esthetic treatments by opening the first Clarins Institut in Paris in 1954. Vowing to “do better, do more and enjoy doing so”, he created new massage methods using the first 100 percent pure plant extract treatment oils.Sharing the same passion, his two sons joined Clarins. Today, Christian Courtin-Clarins presides over the company, continuing to ensure its future growth, and Olivier Courtin-Clarins, the general director, oversees the creation of new institutes and research.
Product safety and efficacy
Since 1954, the Clarins Group has used its unrivalled expertise in the field of beauty to offer consumers the safest, most effective products that deliver real results.
The Clarins Group has always made consumer safety a number-one priority. Believing in the true efficacy of plants, 15 years ago Clarins decided not to use any ingredients of animal origin in its formulas. As such, they were one of the first cosmetic companies to do so. The raw materials used are checked during continuous controls, their innocuousness tested and verified through the most reliable methods. Each and every suppliers is rigorously audited as well.
A computerised identification system involving bar codes of every ingredient involved in the production process to ensure, total traceability and safety was established this year and finally, to guarantee optimal safety for the consumer, the maximum duration of use after product opening is indicated on each product. The opinions of our consumers are invaluable and Clarins encourages them to express their views by inserting a satisfaction questionnaire in every product. These comments are the very source of our inspiration and enable us to develop and update formulas and products that most effectively meet consumers’ current needs.
In this way, a relationship of trust has naturally developed between Clarins and its consumers, acknowledging the group’s capacity for innovation and the rigour of its manufacturing process.
– Sensorial testing panel: An effective tool for the ultimate product formulation. A panel of 20 individuals selected and trained by Clarins meet at Clarins Laboratories once a week to evaluate and compare products. Set up in 2005, this activity aims to measure the sensorial qualities of a product, such as its texture and how it feels upon application.
– “Cosmetovigilance” at the service of the consumer. In anticipation of stricter regulations, in 2005 Clarins reviewed its procedure for monitoring effects on products after their distribution on the market. In close collaboration with the client relations department at Clarins company headquarters in Neuilly, the collection and analysis of client complaints was instituted, focusing on, but not limited to: product identification, description of symptoms and the conditions of their appearance.
– Clarins opens its heart to future generations. A company can no longer turn its back on the world that surrounds it. Clarins has made it a priority to open the eyes of others…the eyes to their hearts.
For Clarins, from founder Jacques Courtin to his sons Christian and Olivier, it is this link of life and love that has been passed on. Jacques Courtin instituted a legacy of philanthropy that has continued through his sons who are equally committed to making the world a better place to live. Through the creation of programmes that advance social responsibility, environmental preservation, and medical research. Clarins has taken on a true leadership role setting the example for others to follow.
– The environment: a genuine concern
A team dedicated to quality management monitor the application of procedures through audits and manage environmental data.
The waste produced is strictly managed, whether it comes from laboratory work or industrial and logistical operations. Today, we are proud to report that there is 100 percent maximised use of waste.
Starting this year, Clarins will use renewable energy sources to supply its logistical platform in Amiens, Paris.
Since everything can be found in plants, Clarins has its use of plants a key component of the brand, which has been a great benefit to many animal species. tarting in 1991, Clarins has eliminated the use of cellular extracts of animal origin.
Respect for the environment goes beyond just the choice of ingredients. In 1987, Clarins was the first French company to stop all product testing on animals. Clarins concern for the environment is also evident through its support of envirnmentally conscious organizations such as Alp Action. Headed by Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, this team supports the preservation and restoration of several natural sites in the Alps, and the Herbarium.
Clarins is the Number One skin care house in Zimbabwe, and have effectively established 20 outlets countrywide. Skin is skin, no matter what colour — Clarins deals with the concern of the skin — and has a range to enhance every woman’s natural beauty.
