Covenant sits you at royal table
He even judged himself as a dead dog, and was almost entirely at the mercy of his servant, Ziba. Thus, no deed of prowess on his part could win David’s notice. However, the covenant of kindness struck between David and Jonathan provided for the children of the ill-fated Jonathan (1 Samuel 20:14-16). It was this sacred obligation that enabled Mephi to fare well.
Mephi’s inability to curry King David’s favour by any other means except through the covenant is analogous to our condition in the sight of God. We are lame indeed as some of us are murderers, infidels or drug abusers.
Others are rebels, profane, obstinate, apostate, anti-Christ, liars, wife-beaters, gossipers and so on. In short, we fall so short of the divine glory that it is quite impossible in our own effort to win the divine regard or sit at his table among his sons. Our only hope is the covenant of love entered into between God and Jesus Christ of which we are the beneficiaries and God is the benefactor.
So if you have sinned in any way and guilty feelings are haunting you or you are just living a lonely, unsaved life full of regrets, sorrows and lack of every kind please look away to the covenant struck between God and your representative, God’s beloved Son.
It is futile of you to seek to propitiate the Divine favour or earn a seat at his table. But if you are willing to identify yourself with Jesus Christ and base your plea on the blood of the everlasting covenant, then the provisions of that covenant between Father-God and his Son shall be extended to you.
And because of God’s love to Jesus Christ you shall sit at the divine table, enjoy his bounty and be regarded as one of the heirs of the great king.
