Eldorado now full-time jazz spot

Eldorado spokesperson Takudzwa Saruchera, this week said they were transforming Eldorado into a permanent venue for jazz music in order to cater for the professionals and mature revelers.
“We have realised there is a great need for professionals and mature revelers to have an exclusive place where they meet and discuss progressive issues in a relaxed environment,” Saruchera said.
“We are promising to live up to our name Eldorado by providing and creating a truly relaxing atmosphere for patrons who are mainly the mature, professionals and the serious minded individuals.”
Saruchera said in addition to the relaxation centre’s special focus on jazz music, there were plans to introduce indoor and outdoor activities to relax both the body and the mind.
“Traditionally, jazz music is characterised by strong rhythm, vivid sounds and psychedelic lyrics,” Saruchera said, adding, “It is music for the mature, professional and serious minded individuals.”
He said Eldorado Payeyo has maintained a jazz tradition over the years which will be taken to higher levels in 2009.
“Remember Eldorado’s famous resident bands like the late Fanyana Dube, Band Aha, Two Open and those we have hosted such as the Police Band, Prison Band, Oliver Mutukudzi, Bob Nyabinde and Jimmy Ngulube,” he said.
He said the relaxation centre was lining up some of these famous jazz artistes in its 2009 entertainment calendar.
In addition, Saruchera said jazz lovers were forming a club to, among other activities, share jazz collections on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at Eldorado.
He said the centre would promote pool and social soccer tournaments on a regular basis.
“Who is the pool champion in Mutare?” asked Saruchera during the interview. “The centre will address this question through a programme of pool tournaments culminating in a Mutare championship tournament with prize money and other incentives.”
He said the centre has completed a plan for a social soccer tourney which would be organized in conjunction with the Sports Commission.
