Leicester City will have to wait until at least Monday to see whether or not a maiden Premeir league title will be theirs following a 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

A win would have secured the Foxes the title, yet should second-placed Tottenham Hotspur fail to win against Chelsea on Monday night, the title will go to Leicester for the first time in their history.

Claudio Ranieri’s men were made to work for the point, going down 1-0 as early as the eighth minute as Antonio Valencia cut inside on the edge of the area, switching play and finding an unmarked Anthony Martial who neatly slotted home to give United the early lead.

Yet just eight minutes later Leicester were level thanks to captain Wes Morgan heading home Danny Drinkwater’s free-kick for just his second goal of the season.

Locked at 1-1 at the break, it was all to play for in the second period, Leicester coming close five minutes in as Shinji Okazaki shot from an acute angle trickled past the post.

Jesse Lindgard’s tame effort on 55 minutes failed to trouble Leicester’s backline, before PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez stung the hands of David De Gea with a fierce effort twenty minutes from time.

It was anybody’s game in the closing stages, with Drinkwater’s late dismissal making it a nervy final few minutes for the Foxes, who managed to hold on for the point, as they await Tottenham’s match against Chelsea tomorrow with baited breath.

Earlier in the day, Europa league semi-finalists Liverpool were beaten 3-1 by Welsh rivals Swansea City, Andre Ayew scoring a brace on either side of Jack Cork’s 33rd-minute goal.

Christian Benteke netted a 67th-minute consolation, with Bradley Smith’s 76th-minute dismissal making the Reds’ possible comeback all the harder, as the loss leaves them seventh in the Premier League standings, with Swansea City jumping up to 13th.

In the late game, a Sadio Mane hat-trick helped Southampton to a 4-2 win over Manchester City, Nigerian sensation Kelechi Iheanacho’s brace not enough to save the defeated Citizens, who remain fourth in the Premier League standings, four points ahead of neighbours Manchester United who have a game in hand.
