God is making you!
It is a blessed thing to know that God is daily at work in your life because this brings hope, serenity and patience into your everyday life. Such knowledge will help you answer most of the questions that boggle your mind in times of pressure, stress and crises. The knowledge that God is not yet finished making you should resolve most of your personal conflicts. It should give you peace that surpasses understanding. And it should give you a ready answer to your critics and enable you to say to them boldly and calmly, “Be patient with me, God is not finished with me yet. Rejoice not over me, oh my enemies! God is turning me into the glorious image of Jesus Christ. And when He is through with me you will tell the difference.”
Jesus Christ was the express image, the true representation in bodily form of the invisible God. He did not attain that image easily but through continual obedience even unto death. It was His unquestioned obedience to His Father that accorded God the opportunity to make him into whatever He willed. He did not resist the will of God but he gladly succumbed to it. He even declared, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God” (Hebrews 10:9). These were words uttered by one who definitely knew that God was at work in His life making Him into something He had never been before. The results were not a surprise; Jesus was highly exalted and given a name above all other names both in heaven and on earth.
Dear reader, you might be going through things you have no idea where they are coming from or some stuff you have do not understand like Job of Uz. Please take heart, God is behind the scenes. You are just an uninformed victim of a cosmic move initiated by God Himself. The problem is that you are only seeing part of a set of events designed to make you into something. If only you could see the whole picture, you would stop all that fretting and questionings and begin to praise God in the midst of your night. God does stop making you at salvation. In fact, your salvation is the starting point of your making because that is when you officially welcome God into your heart and life. Immediately you get saved, the process of progressive sanctification begins. The process of sanctification is not a pleasant experience but a terrible one. It is likened in the Bible to the process of refining gold at very high temperatures.
But the result of having pure gold always brings joy to everyone involved. This is exactly what God intends in subjecting you to intense pressure and stress.
Will you trust Him like Jesus did to bring you to an eternal weight of glory through that unpleasant circumstances? Yes, I know the process is sometimes long and hard but take heart God has measured it out for you. He knows you can endure it and He cannot test you beyond what you can bear. He has predestined you to be transformed into the image of His son and your current situations constitute the process of that brings that transfiguration.
Be patient brethren, your afflictions will not lead to your funeral. Yes, God has allowed you to be tried to strange levels but rejoice in that He has not given you over to death. You need only to co-operate with your Maker and stop striving with Him because arguing, resisting or striving with God will only delay the process of your transformation. Your striving will not stop you from going through the kiln because you have to. Of course, our kilns differ in degrees of temperature, but we all have to go through the kiln, there is no avoiding it. If flour is destined to be bread then it can never avoid being made dough first and being put into the oven. Some things are just part of the process, you cannot avoid them. But going through them with the right attitude saves you time and energy. God is making you. He is not finished with you yet.
If you continue to strive with your Maker, the process will be repeated because you do not want to come out of the oven a half-baked cake. Stop asking many questions, accept you are the clay and God is the potter. He is making you into a vessel of honour, therefore be at peace with Him and good will not only come to you but out of you as well.
