Itai, the cat, meets his fate
The remaining Zimbabwean housemate was last Sunday evicted from the show after spending some 84 days in the Big Brother house and just a week before the winner of the ultimate cash prize of US$200 000 is announced on Sunday.
After a rollercoaster 91 days of reality TV action, it will all culminate in a not-to-be missed two-hour show. And adding to the excitement of the dramatic show, there is also the big news that international star, Bow Wow, will be on stage wowing audiences with three of his hit songs!
However, after surviving three previous nominations by being saved by various heads of house including, of course, saving himself, he fell at the final hurdle.
Itai’s nomination and subsequent eviction was sealed after three of the five other housemates had nominated him to leave the house. The nominations surely cast a dark spell for him as he found himself in a bust-up with Nigerian housemate, Nkenna, which earned them some punishment from Big Brother.
Interestingly, Nkenna was Itai’s comrade-in-arms when the housemates were made to compete in pairs earlier in the show. On his first nomination, Itai was saved from eviction by Nkenna who replaced him with Emma (Angola).
But despite the head of the house Edward (Namibia) having saved his “little sister” Mzamo (Malawi) and replaced her with Kevin, Itai’s nine lives were evidently not enough to tackle the final hurdle.
Edward nominated Itai because, he begrudgingly said, From W1
he was responsible for his twin brother Erastus’ exit from the house. He received the fewest votes in the most countries — meaning he was the continent’s least favourite housemate for the week.
Asked by show host, IK, the secret behind his many escapes, Itai said: “I tried to get along with both camps and figured it would pay off at some point. My strategy was to get friends on both sides and spot which alliances were stronger.”
Itai will probably go down the history books of the show for being the most saved housemate and one who also received the most molotov cocktails — four — on the show.
Meanwhile, despite the agony of being so close yet so far, Itai had the most wonderful surprise — his girlfriend, Tsitsi, was waiting for him outside the Big Brother house. He told IK that he never imagined that he would miss her so much. Itai left Big Brother house with a moneybag with US$2 899.
