It’s Funkalicious time at Hellenic Sports Club

According to Charles Houdart, the Alliance Francaise executive director, the French cultural house will take over the Hellenic Sports Club and create a scene that’s hip, stylish and fun.
Alliance Francaise is a France arm dedicated to promoting the study and the use of the French language, as well as the appreciation of culture, particularly of those who share the French language in their common heritage.
“The Funkalicious crew will once again push the envelope to create and produce the best party in town,” said Houdart adding that the event will follow the signature concept of an international guest DJ, live band and a local resident DJ to produce a blend of sound that has never been heard before on the Harare night scene.
The guest DJ will be none other than Toby 2 Shoes who is from Cape Town, South Africa.
He said DJ Toby 2 Shoes has become the ambassador for the club thumping mix of Balkan big beat from Eastern Europe along with Afrobeat, ragga, electro and much more from his mad mix bag.
“It’s a completely unique, fresh genre and it’s probably going to be the catchiest music you have heard,” said Houdart.
The live band performance will be presented by The Unsound, a collaborative effort by some of Zimbabwe’s most talented performers — Rina Mushonga, Asa Jogi and Angus Wakeling. They performed two sold-out shows at HIFA earlier this year to much critical acclaim and are definitely a breath of fresh air to the Zimbabwe musical landscape.
“To round up the evening or rather the early hours of the morning, the resident local DJ will be Marv Studd, arguably the best DJ in Zimbabwe. Marv Studd is known for his funk, soul and dance collection that dares to mix international beats with local vibes.”
Alliance Francaise will also be bringing Zimbabwe’s first animation festival, the Zimbabwe Festival of African Inspired Animation (ZIMFAIA) tomorrow and Saturday at the Alliance Francaise premises in Harare.
Organised by the Joint Afrikan Animation Group and supported by Alliance Francaise under the theme “Out of the Box”, the festival is a showcase of digital content creators, motion graphics, digital video, animation and visual effects professionals and students.
The award-winning animated film, Waltz with Bashir, will be screened at the opening ceremony tomorrow.
The ZIMFAIA team observes that when most animators in Afrika get together, the subject of conversation is always around how Afrikans can begin to tell their own stories.
ZIMFAIA was born out of the need to create an outlet for the passionate animator on the continent yearning to tell his or her own story.
