“There are individuals that make a difference, but we’re a team.”

Barcelona full-back Jordi Alba feels all players at the club are equal, seemingly taking a dig at Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar made headlines over the weekend for saying his team would be first if everyone was at his level – a statement he has since clarified, saying he was referring to fitness level and not skill – following their 1-0 La Liga loss to Atletico Madrid.

Despite insisting he had not heard the comments, Barca defender Alba says his club teammates are all on the same level, describing them as a band of brothers.

“I didn’t hear them [Ronaldo’s criticisms],” the Spain full-back said. “With regard to Barca I can say we’re like a band of brothers and no one thinks they’re above anyone else.

“There are individuals that make a difference, but we’re a team.”

The Blaugrana’s 2-1 win over Sevilla on Sunday night gives them a 12-point lead over Los Blancos in the La Liga race, yet Aba has not rued their perennial rivals out of the running just yet.

“The gap is significant but it has to stay like that,” he said. “I’m not counting Real Madrid out, they’re a big team.

“We’re top and those behind us are going to make it difficult for us. We have a significant gap but they could give us a scare at any time.” KickOff.com
