Juventus star Paul Pogba has set his sights on becoming an even better player than yesteryear stars Pele and Diego Maradona.

The French midfielder has secured a fourth straight Serie A title in Turin following his move from Manchester United, his sterling performances in midfield making constant headlines across the continent as talk of a move to Barcelona and Real Madrid continues.

And now the 23-year-old has stated his dream of ensuring his name is remembered among the game’s greats.

“I want to become a legend, like Pele or Maradona,” he told La Repubblica.

“Or more than them. I’m not trying to say that I’m the strongest, only that I want to be.

“I have a problem: I hate to lose. And I like to be different, I want to do what nobody else has done. I work hard because I aim to become perfect and because it makes me happy when I win.”

Pogba says that he knows he may not be liked by everyone, but is unperturbed, insisting his focus is on his performance on the pitch.

“I may not be among the most beloved players, but that’s not my target. I’m working to be the best.”

Pogba will hope to impress once more as his Juventus side take on 17th-placed Carpi in their next League encounter on Sunday. Kickoff.com
