JAPANESE  camera producer Nikon Corporation has officially launched in Zimbabwe through a distributorship arrangement with a local company, Solid Visions Technologies and will in the next six months consider setting up an assembling plant in the country.

Nikon Regional Head Sales and Marketing Narendra Menon said the company already in 29 African countries views the Zimbabwean market as having the potential to contribute significantly to the group’s performance in Africa.

“Zimbabwe is a good market looking from a pricing point, we feel the market may not be big but it will have a positive performance,” he said.

Menon said Nikon will in the next three months hold a dealership seminar upon which the group will consider among other issues the possibilities of establishing a plant in Zimbabwe.

Solid Visions Business Development Manager Tendai Chingondo said despite the liquidity challenges in Zimbabwe the company has managed to make available products at moderate prices.

He said Nikon will be the vendor while Solid Visions will be the distributor.

Chingondo said the company’s strength is in key quality brands and already has distributor partnership for key brands such as Epson, Verbatim and is working to bring more.

Solid Visions Business Development Officer Simbarashe Kushata said the company will capitalise on Nikon brand to leverage on its growth although he added that the firm’s emphasis was on moving volumes rather than price competitiveness.’ Finx
