Rainbow livens up big screen
Rainbow has big screens in the major cities of the country with three movie halls in Harare alone — at Westgate Shopping Mall, 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale and Rainbow City in the city centre and will soon be opening its doors at the Joina City. In Bulawayo, it has the Bulawayo Centre and Elite 400 and Rainbow Mutare. From tomorrow, Rainbow will start showing two films — Shrek Forever After and Sorority Row — at the 7 Arts and at the Rainbow City. The films are rated AA and 18 respectively.
While many cinema goers are conversant with the Shrek serial, Sorority Row will be showing for the first time. It’s the kind of shock-you-till-you-drop films that leaves viewers clutching to their seats. It’s all fun and games until someone gets stabbed with a wheel spanner. When a pledge week prank goes wrong and one of their own gets killed, the popular, hard-partying sisters of Theta Pi vow never to speak of the tragedy again or to anyone. But the past comes back to haunt them. The film features a six-girl gang led by Jessica and Cassidy, the good girl; Chugs, the party girl; Claire, the flirt; Ellie, the screamer, and Megan, the princess.
However, the highlight of next week is the showing of a horror movie, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. This horror film is rated 18 and is not suitable for persons of a nervous disposition. Texas Chainsaw Massacre opens at the Rainbow City cinema again tomorrow. The year is 1969. On one last fling before leaving to serve in the Vietnam War, two brothers, Dean (Handley) and Eric (Bomer), embark on a road trip across Texas with their girlfriends, Chrissie (Brewster) and Bailey (Baird). But their jeep crashes on a deserted highway and, the sadistic Sheriff Hoyt (Ermey) mysteriously arrives on the scene to unveil an adrenalin pumping sequel.
