Stage set for NAMA

The six-week adjudication process, that started immediately after the November 30 2009 deadline for submission of entries, has come up with lists of nominees in different disciplines to be announced in the first week of February.
This year’s NAMA will see the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe honour 34 outstanding individual artists and groups in the music, theatre, literary arts, dance, visual arts, media, special awards as well as in film and television.
The awards will be given to artists whose work was created between December 1 2008 and November 30 2009.
The public will participate in selecting their favourite artist or art product by casting a vote through sms and online.
The awards  ceremony, with the theme “Together As One”, will be held on February 20 at the 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale, Harare.
Awards will be in the following categories:

Literary Arts
Outstanding fiction book; outstanding children’s book; outstanding first creative published work.
Dance
Outstanding male dancer; outstanding female dancer;outstanding dance group
Theatre
Outstanding actress; outstanding actor; outstanding theatrical production
Music
Outstanding choral group; outstanding song; outstanding album; outstanding musician/group
Visual art
Outstanding two-dimensional work; outstanding three-dimensional work; outstanding mix media work
Film and television
Outstanding actor; outstanding actress; outstanding screen production (film); outstanding screen production (television drama); outstanding screen production (television soap); outstanding music video
Media awards
Outstanding arts reporter (print); outstanding arts reporter (electronic: radio); outstanding arts reporter (electronic: television)
Special awards
National Arts Service Award; arts personality award
